I saw this piece on Fox news, that Mississippi is trying purpose a bill that resturants can't serve to obese people. Wow!
They had two Lawyers on, one said he thought no way this could pass because we are going into someones private life and it isn't illegal to eat.The other said he thinks it eventually could pass because of the high rise in medical expenses we spend each year on health related issues due to obese people.
I for one think that is going way to far......WOW..!
What are your thoughts??

So do I. Maybe if they are
So do I. Maybe if they are going to pass legislation for something related to obesity it should be something to do with portion size and overall health content of the food served in restaurants. Nobody should be denied the right to eat in a restaurant, but I for one would like to see healthier options and more realistic portions served in restaurants. My goodness, even the children's portions are sometimes so big that I couldn't eat them myself!
I can't imagine a bill like
I can't imagine a bill like that passing! Can you imagine? First of all, who gets to determine who's "too fat" to eat in the restaurant? The manager? The wait staff? Also, since so much of the population is obese, I think a lot of restaurants would go out of business if they didn't serve them! Interesting topic of discussion, but I don't see it ever happening.

That's crazy!!! I have a
That's crazy!!! I have a hard time believing this would pass. Yes, there are a lot of obese people in the US - but no one, especially restaurant owners, managers or employees are going to enforce this.
Would everyone's BMI be checked at the door?
just~me
As a teenager, I was big --
As a teenager, I was big -- because of an undiagnosed chemical imbalance in my brain; this was before it was socially acceptable to need medicine, and many of us abused food to get the sugar/carb high that (temporarily) relieved our symptoms.
Many of the people I love are big. They aren't gluttons, and they aren't lazy. They might be twice my weight, but I can easily out-eat them at a buffet and still wear a size 8-10. I've been along on the visits to the doctor, heard the remarks, and seen people in the grocery store check out our cart. I've been known to whip around and say, "Not that it's any of your business, but the ice cream is for me."
Yes, I want them to be healthy and happy. Yes, I know that the weight is part of the reason that their legs and backs ache. But I also know that limiting yourself to 1000 or 1200 calories a day for the rest of your life is a miserable way to live. For many big people, even that won't take off the weight.
If Mississippi would get off its duff and do something about its rampant poverty, maybe people there could afford better food. In any case, we have way too many important things to think about than how much our neighbor weighs. The people who proposed this deal should be strapped down and force-fed Ding Dongs and Twinkies until they develop love handles and saddlebags, or fall into a sugar coma -- whichever happens first.
This is absolutely
This is absolutely ridiculous! There's no way this could pass as it would be a violation of their civil rights as it's a form of discrimination.
I have to say this about the portion issue, just because you get served a larger portion doesn't mean you have to eat it all. I think we all need to take responsibility for our own actions. If you overeat you WILL gain weight and then you have no one to blame but yourselves.
I understand that there are some people with a chemical imbalance where their bodies don't get the signal from the brain telling them that they are full, so they continue eating, but those people should be seeking professional help to correct the imbalance. Another issue is the older you get and the heavier you are makes it harder to lose the weight. Doesn't mean you can't, just that you have to work much harder than someone younger and not as heavy as you.
The problem with government regulating the type of food and portions in restaurants is that it can quickly spread to other areas of our lives.
Example:
People who ride motorcycles are obviously more likely to get seriously injured in an accident than someone in car/truck/SUV is, so does that mean that the government should outlaw motorcycles because the riders could potentially be responsible for the rise not only in medical expenses but auto insurance as well. Then you could also go to the government telling people they can only drive hybrids or electric cars because they are better for the environment, and since those tend to be smaller cars the government would be indirectly telling people that they can only have as many kids as can safely ride in said cars. Getting the government involved in our personal lives is a very slippery slope.
It is better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you are not.
Sigh...perhaps a law
Sigh...perhaps a law mandating an IQ test for all public officials before they are allowed to take office and collect a paycheck! Oh wait, that would never pass either....There is no hope for world peace, is there???? sigh....
LOL.... I am sure this too
LOL....
I am sure this too will never pass...however it still makes you scratch your head at the fact....that the goverment has no clue!
