FDLS Raids

not_the_mama's picture

I've got a bunch of mixed feeling about the fact that the authorities raided an FDLS ranch, and took over 50 girls, aged 5 months to 16 years. There are 18 kids that they held onto, pending further investigation. Don't get me wrong. What Warren Jeffs has put into place in terms of polygamy and child brides is horrific -- and exiling young men to reduce competition for young brides is appalling; the poor boys don't have the first clue about how to survive in the outside world.

I just can't stop thinking about how the whole episode might have played out for a young girl who got plucked out, put on a church bus, and got interrogated. I'd like to know what happened with the other 32 girls. What does it say about us "outsiders" when we treat these kids like catch-and-release fish? Since this has been going on for generations, and the FDLS has managed to limit education (to ensure that people wouldn't be able to make it on their own if they jumped ship), I'm a little reluctant to blame the parents.

All I know is that knowing what's going on make me really angry. I'm just not sure who to be angry at. Right now, I'm angry with authorities who are pussy-footing around, and not taking care of the children.

Have you thought about this? What's your take?

I think that I am angry at

I think that I am angry at FLDS group and the way that treat their followers, but also the government for being reluctant to get involved with them. I think that it is appalling that it took so many years for somebody to finally do something for the women as well as the young men involved in this cult.

Cripes, I knew it. It's

Cripes, I knew it. It's getting worse. 137 children and 46 women in the last pass.

They have got to be bewildered and afraid. I'm sorry that I don't trust law enforcement to make them feel warm and fuzzy.

maybe it's because these

maybe it's because these people see nothing wrong with their life and they see the law enforcement as the enemy and part of satans regeim (spl?), the same as they see you and me, interrupting there life that they see as "normal/moral", ect.

" just my Opinion"

I just read Carolyn Jessop's

I just read Carolyn Jessop's book "Escape" written about her escape from the FLDS church. She was fortunate enough to escape with her 8 children - something unheard of. Most women that walk away are forced to leave their children behind. It's terrible what that cult is doing to its members, but you are right, they do think of outsiders as evil, and this will certainly play right into that way of thinking.

I just keep wondering, where
