Getting away from the kids is something we try to do for our own sanity. (besides, it's romantic when it's just the two of you)
This sounds like fun, just because it's not the typical dinner and movies date. A friend mentioned "Adult's Night Out" event at Arizona Science Center (they happen the first Friday of the month). It's going to take place this Friday from 5:30-9 p.m.
There will be music, a lecture, art and food. Plus, play like a kid in the interactive exhibits. There's also a cash bar. It's free to go, but you have to pay for IMAX if you want to try that.

Yes, I love those dates
Yes, I love those dates without the kids every once in a while :))
My husband got a reservation to Schnepf's Farm's new special 5 course dinner with wine on their peach orchard coming up on November 17th (the day after my birthday). He also reserved for another one there in April 2008.
Check out that place, too, if you are interested. They may be booked as they only allowed 70 reservsations for the evening.

Are there other
Are there other nontraditional date ideas out there? I'd love to hear about them.

That sounds like fun. I
That sounds like fun. I think it's super important to set aside date nights for the parents. Afterall, when the kids eventually leave the house (our job is to train them so they can), it will be the pair of you.
This is a little on the traditional side, but I like dinner at Pizza Bianco's at Heritage Square downtown. The reason I like it for married couples is that the restaurant does not take reservations for parties under six, and there is always a long wait, so what you do is wait at the bar for usually an hour or two (you can get drinks and munchies while you wait) - what a great chance to catch up and really engage in each other. The bar is intimate and quiet, BTW, so the setting is perfect.
Happy Dating!
