Last week, I started a new job after being out of the workforce since November 2006. After my third child was born at the end of December 2006, I took the opportunity to stay at home with him. It was something I always wanted to do for my kids and only got the chance with the last one. I’ve had a job of some kind since I was sixteen years old, and as a SAHM I found I never quite stopped working. Definitely, my life and days did not slow down any.
I’ve been posting here for a few months as pctgoldfinch, but now I am happy to tell you I am a new staff member of arizonamoms.com. My job is to do marketing and outreach for the site. I will be out in your communities, at your events and places of business, meeting you and finding ways to bring more moms to the forums at arizonamoms.com.
I’m very fortunate to have found a career opportunity in a mom-friendly atmosphere that is also focused on motherhood and family. Going back to the workforce can be a welcome and positive experience, whether the reasons are economic, or when staying at home wasn’t all we thought it would be. I’ve got plenty of first-week-back-to-work tidbits to share with you for laughs, and I’d like to hear more about your experiences as former at-home moms who are back to work.
Thanks for all the sharing you do to make this a great place to be a mom!

Congrats on your new job! I
Congrats on your new job! I am so thankful to find Arizonamoms. I tell all the moms about it. Its a great way to reach out and help other moms that are in the same situation that we are all in at times.
I always worked outside the home too, but now I love staying home with my only child. I do miss the interaction with moms, so chatting on Arizonamoms helps me feel connected again.
One Happy Mom in Arizona.
Thank you! It helps so much
Thank you! It helps so much to be in touch with others when you are at home, whether you have a home-based job or not. For five years when my first child was born, I worked full time from home. Even though I had frequent phone contact with co-workers, it was very isolating. Chatting with other moms kept me sane and helped me keep things in perspective, plus it was great to know I could often get answers to my questions within minutes!

Good on you, Susan. I hope
Good on you, Susan. I hope you can also keep us villagers (i.e. it takes a village ...) in mind as well.
How wonderful - congrats on
How wonderful - congrats on your new job back in the workforce. I'm sure its an exciting time. I wish I had words of wisdom. I'm a SAHM that went back to work for a short time after the birth of my first son then decided to stay home. I know its probably hard trying to get back into a working routine with the kids, home, etc. Hang in there before you know it - it will all be second nature - it will flow nicely. Have fun in your new role.
