Warning -May Be Offensive

Okay, this might be offensive so a heads up .... it's offensive to me too and that's why I'm posting it. It kills me the amount of people walking around in this world who don't have enough hygiene etiquette to flush the toilet after they go to the bathroom whether it's #1 or #2. I don't know how many times a week at my office I walk into the bathroom and one of the stalls hasn't been flushed. I work in a high rise building with several offices on each floor so there are many people using the same bathrooms no office has it's own bathroom, there is one bathroom on each floor for all offices. It just thoroughly disgusts me that there are adults walking around that think nothing of this. And on that same subject the people who don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom. There have been so many times I'm in the stall going to the bathroom and someone will come out of one and just leave with out washing their hands ... ughh...gross...gag!!! What's up with people these days!!! Not only do I notice both of these things at work, but while out and about too when I bring my daughter to the bathroom while we're shopping or at restaurants, etc. my daughter even notices on her own about the non-hand washing and will say "mommy she didn't wash her hands yuck".

I'm not too sure why people

GlendaleMom's picture

I'm not too sure why people do this. Maybe in a hurry? But if so, they had enough time to go to the bathroom so make enough time to wash your hands! Feel sorry for their kids because they probably don't do it either. Nasty!!

I was not offended by this

susan_hampton's picture

I was not offended by this topic, by the way, but curious when I saw the headline!

I have left a restroom without washing my hands when I judge the sink, counter and faucet to be too grungy to touch. I'll opt instead to use the sanitizer I keep in my purse.

I don't understand why people don't flush, either. Really.

I once saw a girl with a bag

Katy1999's picture

I once saw a girl with a bag of microwave popcorn walk into a stall.....taking the bag with her......how gross is that? Who takes food into the bathroom? This is why i don't eat potluck food, who knows what goes on in their homes....:P
I also hate the "hoverers"......the ones who don't want their butt touching the seat( even with the assgaskets, their butt is still too pristene for the toilet) so they hover above the seat and end up tinkling on it.....and then they leave it there so their pee is on the seat when you come in(and I see this at work, so I know it isn't because little boys with wild aim are using it).
I also used to work at a company...I shall refer to them as the Evil Empire.....where there were some very avid readers who would take the newspaper into the stall and then leave it everywhere.....the restroom on our floor would look like a newsstand that blew up. Maybe they thought they'd leave it behind for others to enjoy, but IMHO the restroom at your place of employment is not where you want to get so comfy on the commode that you read.....lol

Not offended - I agree! I

Not offended - I agree! I once got so fed up that I typed up signs that read,

"Ecoli bacteria can live on surfaces for HOURS - PLEASE wash your hands WITH SOAP!"

...and taped them up in all of the bathrooms around the building!

It's stuff like this that makes me paranoid. I feel bad in a way that my kids even use a piece of toilet tissue to flush the toilet at home, because I've conditioned them so much. LOL. I tried to tell them that it's okay at home, since they've seen me go nuts with the Clorox wipes (greatest invention of this century!), but they won't budge...LOL.

I see my friends kids (like 4 and 5 yrs old), hop up on the potty and actually steady themselves by holding onto the toilet seat - even wrapping their tiny fingers around the edge! I almost had a heart attack when I saw that! My kids - right or worng, and I conceed that I may have been wrong - are adept at hoping on and off, like acrobats, balancing with their arms out like airplane wings, so they follow the family motto - DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!

I flush public toilets with

Katy1999's picture

I flush public toilets with my foot.....and I have shown my son to do the same. lol
You have to be a little paranoid about germs - especially when it comes to children and public restrooms...there are some nasty bugs out there these days that can lead to devastating infections in little ones. Why risk it?
We used to take our son to Swim Kids for lessons, and my husband would take him into the locker room to shower off...and we made him wear flip flops in the shower.....but my husband was amazed at some of the other dads who allowed their kids to wallow around in the bottom of the shower, playing in the drain....after a full days use, can you imagine the funk living in there? Yuuuuuuuucck.,

I flush with my foot

mwheeler's picture

I flush with my foot too...
I too can't stand seeing all the mess.....don't understand!
Maybe they think the toilet will flush it self like some restrooms do....who knows...
My mom taught me to always put something on the public toliet so I do....
A few months a go I was visiting her and we went to the beach and I had to go.....
When I got out....I was walking by the RV we took to the beach....and I heard my step dad...yelling my name over and over...when I looked over he was trying to tell me I had toliet paper hanging out of my pants...and it was like train on a wedding dress.....since I had a couple layers on the toliet...it was so funny!

It might be a bit snarky,

Happy2BMommy's picture

It might be a bit snarky, but I'd consider discreetly taping up signs over the potty...
"if you are old enough to work here, you are old enough to flush the toilet. Please flush every time. Thanks."

I agree, it's totally gross!! Especially not washing hands!! Just an interesting point, a saw a study once that said the toilet seats are relatively clean (when tested for bacteria), the floors and the door handles were much worse.

It never ceases to amaze me

JuneSlager's picture

It never ceases to amaze me the condition people will leave public restrooms. The mentality of it being someone else's job to clean it up must truly be at work in some people. I can not fathom otherwise why they would do the things they do.
There is probably nothing that can be done for those who already have this attitude ingrained in them, but we certainly can train our children to treat public restrooms differently.

As for the hand washing, it again is something that has to be learned when young. It is so important to make sure and reenforce this with our children, even if it sounds redundant. It will certainly pay off in the future.

I don't understand this

Susie's picture

I don't understand this either - i overhead a conversation once ab out not flushing in public places because there are too many germs on the handle. so why can't they use toilet paper to do that?

It's gross I know. I flush

divaballerina's picture

It's gross I know. I flush with my foot so I don't have to touch the handle... But don't think that everyone that walks out of a bathroom isn't washing b/c I am always ALWAYS using purell and I don't like touching the sink handles so I just dig around in my purse as I am walking out and put purell on my hands. This post makes me wonder how many people are looking at me as I am walking out still digging around in my purse thinking "EW! that lady didn't wash"..lol

It's just rude to leave a

mamalemur's picture

It's just rude to leave a mess in public restrooms. I've taught my kids to flush with their feet - and they always wash their hands.
And it's not enought to just run your hands under the water then dry ..
30 seconds of scrubbing with soap and warm water - use your paper towel to turn off the water, and to open the door!
