Black pants barometer

Kindahotmom's picture

I have five pairs of black pants in my closet – four different styles, three different sizes. One pair is bound to fit, no matter what I've been eating lately or if I've missed my workouts at the gym this week.

I can gauge what the day will be like based on how many pairs I try on before I score the right one. If the first pair fits, it promises to be a banner day. If I have to work my way through three or four pairs before I find one I can zip up, the day's star rating drops to 2½.

It's all superstition, I know. But if I've reached the fifth pair, I'm convinced that it won't be a good day. Then again, no matter what the day holds, it likely won't be any worse than me standing in my underpants in the doorway of my closet, pairs of black pants in puddles at my feet and the clock ticking down the minutes until I'm late for work.

Maybe I'll just wear a skirt. Or, do you think I'd getting away with calling in with a bad case of nothing-to-wear?

I can't count how many sizes

I can't count how many sizes I have of blk pants.. I think I need to throw away the ones that are to big and that way I HAVE to workout and eat right..

don't throw them

don't throw them away...donate them. We donate clothing all of the time...they make it so easy for us these days with the notifications we get in the mail stating "they" (3 or 4 different organizations) will be in our neighborhood on such and such day.

May sound silly, but i feel better knowing the items will go to someone who needs them and not in the trash. Plus, its a nice tax deduction.

That's not a bad idea. Maybe

That's not a bad idea. Maybe I should narrow it to at least only two sizes. I think black pants are a little like black shoes - you can never have too many pairs! Then again, my shoes are all the same size.

I agree! I have too many

I agree! I have too many pairs to count. I always keep the top 3 at my fingertips. The rest are on shelves. I probably have a range of 4 sizes! I have dressy, casual, and capri.
The sad part is, I want more! Let's call in and go shopping. I think that's a work function!

OK, I'm glad I'm not the only one. And I have the same problem with tan pants, but I think I have more of these - probably 10 pairs. I boxed some up because they are just too small. And yet, I hope I'll fit into them again.

And if I go through too many pairs, it does make for a terrible start. Guess I shouldn't have eaten that McD's hot fudge sundae last night. But Julia wanted to treat me to a sundae with some early birthday money she got in the mail. How could I say no?!

I've got the opposite

not_the_mama's picture

I've got the opposite problem: no clothes that fit. Well, I could probably get into my old khakis, but I remember another post that describe my wardrobe in detail -- as an example of frump.

So, I need to buy some casual slacks (not jeans), and I'm not sure where to begin. Cost is a factor. My biggest problem with pants (and why I hung on to pleated pants for so long) is that my waist is much smaller than my hips and backside.

I'm going to have to start leaving the house in the near future, so I need to figure this out. My company is providing me with "team" shirts to wear, so what I need right now are shoes and slacks.

Any ideas?

Karina, I love the way you

Karina, I love the way you write. You make every monotonous event sound like the beginning of a great novel.. And, not-the-mama, there are some great wide leg trouser jeans in soft fabircs out there. The wide leg is back, and perfect for those who have a small waist. Give them a try. I like to pair a wide leg with a fitted top or if you are not comforable with that, you can grab a more bousy one, casual or dressy and it would look perfect.

I vote for the calling in

I vote for the calling in with a case of nothing to wear :)

I have a uniform for my work, and pray sometimes as I button it up, that is still fits. I see pictures of myself and think, that can't be me. When did I start looking like that? Then I happily go about my day, because I don't have to look at myself, not really.

Hi, for what it's worth. I have five pairs of black pants too..all different styles and sizes. Yesterday, I did a little shopping at Kohl's and came home with two more black pairs of pants ( a must buy...they were on sale) and a pair of black shorts.
I had to have them. Now, when I go into my closet, I don't which ones are the new ones and which ones are the old ones. I have to check the size and designer. My entire wardrobe is black and white...
