I would like to ask moms or dads of girls in the ages of 10 to 14 yrs old, and perhaps older, why they allow their daugthers to wear shorts that are as short (or long) as underwear. I constantly see these girls walking around the mall, at birthday parties, and sometimes even at church. I know most shorts are short, and I dont expect girls to be wearing capris or bermudas in Arizona. At the same time, in stores such as Abercrombie, the shorts end right below their bottom.
Why would you let your daugther wear this? My daugther wears shorts that are inches longer, and if there is a cute dress thats short, she can wear it with light capri leggings.
Once girls are 16, 17, 18, there is less control as to what you can have them wear, but when they are this young, moms and dads need to set the rules.
Lets not even start talking about Abercrombie and their $60 pair of shorts either.
thats just a waste of money on distasteful clothes.
Someone please shed some light on this topic for me.

I have a 12 year old girl and I wonder the exact same thing! Who BUYS this stuff for their kids!?!? These little girls look like strippers-in-training and it's just sad.
If parents just 'voted with their dollars' by leaving the short shorts and shirts that say "Hottie" or "You Know You Want Me" etc. on the rack, manufacturers would get the message. But as long as people keep dressing up their daughters like prostitutes, that's what we'll be offered in stores.
I think some moms think they're being 'cool' or 'fashionable' by letting their little girls parade around like this, but they might as well just get them shirts that say "Mom doesn't care if I get molested" or "Spawn of Anything Goes Parents."
It's sad, because in the long run it is the kids who suffer.

I don't understand these short skirts either! If the moms wouldn't wear them themselves, why would they allow their daughters to wear them???

I completely agree with you. It's sad........i was at the mall and these two 12 yr old girls were dressed like they were going to a night club. When a few older boys approached them and started flirting with them...the girls clearly showed they were a bit scared and the boys (thank god) realized these are very young girls and continued on their way. The girls just kind of looked at each other in shock when the boys left and then started giggling.
All i could think of was...i'm glad these young men realized how young these girls were and moved on.

i might also add..one of the girls was wearing heels she couldn't even walk in. She was holding on to the railing on the upper level at the mall as clumsily walked the mall. (The boys caught her when she was on a break from her walk) I thought for sure this little girl was going to brake an ankle that day.

I want to know why parents would let their daughters dress that way as well. Maybe the girls are sneaking the clothes out of the house, but then why would the parents not know their daughters own those types of clothes? Anyway, I am horrified whenever I see these little girls dressed in such revealing clothing as well.

I don't have girls, but I've seen moms with daughters in Forever 21 that are dressed the same way as their daughters. They watch them try on clothes I'm dying over. I think sometimes they just think thier little girl is "so cute" and "if I had a body like that, I'd love to wear those things."
I had a friend in HS whose mom wanted her to be popular and liked by older boys so she bought her really reavealing clothes. My friend thought it was cool at the time, but now that she's a mom can't believe what her mom did.

Brooke's right, some of these moms are living through their daughters and thinks its cute for them to dress like that. I have four daughters and I am young mother but would never allow any of them to dress with short shorts or skirts nor do I dress in any way that I wouldnt want them to dress. Arizona summers are hot but all my girls shorts are bermudas. My oldest has this short skort she loves but she can only wear it with leggings. As long as I am buying their clothes in my house they will not dress revealing. There is no need for them to look older or turn older mens heads. High heels ya right!

I'm so glad you all feel this way - I couldn't agree with you more. It's so sad to see these girls dressed like this - their self worth based on how attractive they are to boys. I'd never allow my daughter to dress like that. But hopefully she'll have enough brains and self confidence to never want to expose herself like that.
