So, we just had to replace our carpet due to the other being defective. And we found the best carpet in the whole world at Lowes...and it's so affordable!!!
It's a Mohawk brand, and comes in either the long or short cut. This carpet feels so ultimately soft and cushiony on your feet. It's a 60oz carpet...my husband says that's really good. We got the carpet at Lowes for only $18/sq yd (not including pad). And you can normally get an install special for anywhere between $99-$200.
This carpet anywhere else guaranteed would be between $30-$40/sq yd. We got the long cut in our house.
I just thought I would pass this along, in case someone out there is looking.
We (actually my husband) made the mistake with the first carpet of going through some little no name store that marks up their material like a gazillion times. The first carpet we had was so cheap...we were only in the house for a few months and I was already seeing wear on the carpet where we walked a lot...and we paid $24/sq yd for that. I tried to tell my husband this wasn't the way to go...those little stores just generally aren't the best bang for your buck. Lucky for us the carpet was defective and Shaw gave us a credit. Long story short we used the new carpet from Shaw in another house and went to Lowes and purchased this carpet for our house. Now mama is happy...and you know what that means. :)

How funny, we just purchased
How funny, we just purchased tile from Lowe's. It was at a fantastic price $0.68 and is 13x13. With four girls and cheap carpet the builder put in, I never want to see carpet in my house again. We are doing all the prep and it was nasty. I thought I saw them advertising installation at $199?

I hear you about carpet in
I hear you about carpet in the house. I have to have it in the rooms, though. There's no way I would have been able to talk my hubby into putting radiant floor heating throughout the rooms, too (though I got it in my bathroom). :)
And I just dont' clean the floors often enough to not have carpet...it's a whole lot easier for me to pull out the vacuum. I'm sure that will change as our family grows, but that's not for a long while-just the 1yr old now.

Timely post. Thanks!
One of the first (just after getting rid of the contact-paper-over-cheap-panels look) I'm going to do in the Piper is get rid of this nasty carpeting and ugly vinyl.
I saw a tile product on Flip This House that was actually a very thin tile top over a ready-made subfloor. Has anybody seen that or worked with it?
