Hey everyone!
I am new to this website-but already thing it's great.
My family and I are moving out to AZ from San Diego soon. My husband starts his job April 7th and we are going out there this weekend to find a home to rent and possibly a home to buy. My question is.I have a 7 yr old daughter and I want this transition to go smoothly for her.So I was wondering what is there out there that I can get her into, so she can associate with other kids and make it feel more comftorable for her. We plan on moving to Chandler or possible Gilbert. We really like the Seville Community. I have a few other question that if you don't mind would like to get some opinions.
Which schools are good? I have been going to greatschools.net
Activities to do with her?
Opinions on the communities that I have listed as well as Quail Springs?
I am 6 1/2 mos pregnant so any advice on Dr.'s, hospitals and peditricians would also be helpful.

I know I am asking a lot of questions, but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am looking forward to starting a new life out in AZ-it's just so beautiful!
And I have to ask, do you REALLY have problems with Scorpions/snakes there in Gilbert/Chandler.

Thank you again for taking the time to read this, I ama little nervous about the move but hoping to meet great friends ;)

Hello and welcome! The good

Hello and welcome!

The good news is that I don't believe any of the Phoenix metro cities particularly have a problem with scorpions but the bad news is you can have that problem anywhere in Phoenix. Seems common sense that homes on a wash or in lush desert areas might be more suseptable.

That said, I've lived here for 21 years and I only had scoprions in one house - and they started coming because I stopped spraying for bugs. The bug spray does not deter scorpions, but it keeps the other bugs away that they like to eat.

I did get bit. It hurt bad but it is not poisionous for healthy adults. If an elder or infant get bit, the ER has anitivenom. I think now you might be feeling worse than better! Sorry! I used to think it was a big deal, but now I never even think of it.

As far as scorpions - some

As far as scorpions - some areas seem to have an issue, others you will never see them. Check with realtors and exterminating companies for areas to avoid. Snakes (venomous kind) you are not going to see in your yard unless you are very close to a desert area. I used to hike quite a bit and never saw more than a garden variety snake.

If you are worried about the new baby and scorpions - put glass jars over the crib legs and don't let the crib touch the walls.

Schools - I think both Chandler and Gilbert overall have pretty good reputations, of course, some individual schools may be better than others. Kyrene school district is good - in western Chandler and South Tempe. There are also a number of charter and Montessori schools to choose from.

My child is not old enough for activites, but soccer seems to be big here. Local Y's and your city's community center may have some indoor crafts, dance, or sports for the summer.

On the OB/ hospital, check with your insurance first. I went to Contemporary Care for Women in South Tempe (not far from north Chandler). Your closest hospitals will be Chandler Regional, Banner Desert and a new one in Gilbert. Certain OB's will only deliver at certain hospitals, but it is usually one fairly close to their office. Mesa Pediatrics has a good rep, and have I think four offices. They have a website. Check the internet for them, and for the community activites for Chandler and Gilbert. (usually the city names.state.gov).

Hope this helps a little. Welcome, and good luck. Don't lift too much in the move. Have to protect that little one.
