Opinions on BPA in bottles

My mom just recently informed me of BPA in baby bottles and of the toxins in recyclables labled with the number 3,6,7. So today was the day I decided to dump my avent bottles and switch to playtex drop-ins (the drop ins are bpa free). Money is definately tight right now, but I know if I dont switchI will feel like I am poisioning my son everytime I give him a bottle. I feel like my decision was worth the extra money we spent. I was just wondering what everyone else was thinking about this.
Here is a link to one site that i visited where you can see all the different brands and what is considered bpa free and what ones are not..

I wish I had known about

I wish I had known about that when my son was on the bottle. I found out about this recently and went on a rampage through my home to get rid of alot of these products. When your child gets to sippy cups, I recommend the take and toss because they are safe plastic. Alot of the hard plastic are the worst offenders. sad that they would make baby products out of this stuff. You can also try pvcfree.org for more information.

We had the Avent too and

We had the Avent too and replaced them with the Platex drop-ins. They were to much of a pain to mix the formula up in so I'm sending those on to a girlfriend of mine who will use them for her next child. I decided to go with the Wal-Mart Parents' Choice brand which is BPA free.

As for sippy cups, we have the Playtex Insulators which are on the good list and we love them.

For anyone interested, here is a website that has bottles, binkies, sippy cups, teethers and other items that are BPA and Phthalate free.

It is better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you are not.

Thank you for the website! I

Check the target brand and

Check the target brand and other store brand drop-in bags to see if they are BPA free.

We used the playtex drop-is and towards the end of my daughters bottle days, i noticed the store brands which were a little less expensive then the playtex.

Every little bit you save counts in my opinion. But of course health and safety come first.

My youngest just went to a Pump it Up party and got a water bottle as the going away gift. It is a 7. I went to the front desk to let them know, so they could inform management about this. The person at the desk said they would let management know and stated they get these from corporate.

We have to let others know, so thank you for this post.

FYI - the biggest offenders

FYI - the biggest offenders of the "number 7 plastic containers" for fluid...is those big 'ole, blue water dispensers that the truck delivers and you struggle to flip upside down into the holder.

The water just sits and sits in those before they are delivered and again sits at your home, then they are re-used and re-filled when the company picks up the empties.

My 39-yr. old friend just got rid of hers after finishing her treatment for breast cancer. Mind you, she did all the right things to be healthy: non-smoker, thin, babies before 30, breastfed all 4 each for 12 mo. ... all the things doctors tell you to do to lower your risk factors.

While she'll never have an explanation for why she had 4 tumors, now her family is simply trying to reduce other known risk factors, like getting rid of their water dispenser!

I think this whole thing is

I think this whole thing is very scary. I was unable to breast feed past seven months. During those seven months I was supplementing with formula using Dr. Brown and Avent bottles. My daughter's pacifier is also Avent. Now thats she is ten months old has the damage already been done? From the studies I have read she could hit puberty at an early age, develop breast cancer or even have behavioral problems. I wish that this information was available before she was born. Now what do parents do who have already been using the products for an extended period of time? Can the negative effects be reversed?

I had heard about this a few

I had heard about this a few months ago - before this recent study came out. We hike a lot and I went through & got rid of most of our Naglene bottles. Also, the kids' refillable water bottles (the clear, hard plastic ones) I threw out. So scary that this stuff has been around for so long.
